Digital Youth, Inquiry, and the Future of the School Library  … Research to Practice

Join the celebration of 10 years of CiSSL and 30 years of Dr. Carol Collier Kuhlthau’s research centering on the Information Search Process and Guided Inquiry

Focus Question of the Research Symposium

How can schools prepare to deliver a 21st century education for digital youth?

This question will be explored through the themes:

Guided Inquiry. This research theme focuses on Guided Inquiry as an instructional framework for using the Information Search Process to guide students through curriculum units to develop deep knowledge and understanding. It showcases Guided Inquiry practice through the application of evidence-based practice undertaken by instructional teams in various countries to address national curriculum standards.

Digital Youth and Creative Technologies for Learning.  This research theme focuses on the emergence of the school library as a creative technology for the integration of learning and digital content such as virtual worlds and gaming, digital devices and app-related content. It investigates the information behaviors of youth and their engagement with information in all its forms, critical reading, and building disciplinary knowledge.
